"White Collar" star Matt Bomer certainly has the looks and physique that are becoming of a superhero, and in fact, he almost nabbed the role of Clark Kent, better known as Superman when he was only 23 years old.
Bomer revealed during an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he was part of the big open audition for a Brett Ratner directed adaptation of "Superman," and he would have been ready to put on the caped costume. Sadly, things were just not meant to be.
"Brett chose me for the project and then it all fell apart. It was a very lengthy process to get the role, I think it was over the course of three months because I went in a cattle call. It sort of evolved from there. It was a month of, 'Okay, looks like this is going to happen'. And then it slowly fell apart," he shared.
Ratner's version of "Superman" had a script written by "Star Wars" legend J.J. Abrams, and it was reportedly a "lighthearted" take on the superhero story, since it will cover Kent's college years, before he even worked for the major newspaper company The Daily Planet.
The tone of their supposed movie is completely different to what audiences are seeing now with the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which looks very dark and grim.
On the other hand, it looks like Amy Adams was always meant to play Kent's love interest Lois Lane, who is a fellow reporter for The Daily Planet. She was part of Zack Snyder's 2013 film "Man of Steel," which starred Henry Cavill as Superman. But prior to that, she was actually being considered as Lois Lane in Ratner's project and has even read a few lines with Bomer.
It was disappointing that Ratner's project never materialized though, and even though Bomer would have loved to play Superman, the actor does not harbor any feelings of regret or bitterness for it not pushing through.
"I have zero regrets about that, I feel like I've gotten to do such a rich array of roles in so many different things. I haven't been too locked in... I mean that's a very iconic role to portray, to suddenly be that character in everyone's minds forever," he said.
Other stars who have been considered for the role as the caped crusader include Jude Law and Ashton Kutcher.
