Sony has begun rolling out the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for its Xperia Z and Xperia ZR line of devices.
The OS upgrade was made available to users from different regions and comes with various user interface improvements, according to GSM Arena.
The users who first reported about the availability of the update for their Xperia devices are those from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bolivia, Nigeria and Bangladesh. Given that the release of the update is not region-specific, users from other countries can expect to receive the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop soon.
Some of the notable improvements include support for the devices' guest mode and multi-user profiles. It also adds the Google Material design to compatible apps and the handsets' user interface.
The update also comes with customizable settings and intelligent lock screen features for notifications.
Users can manually check for the availability of the update through their devices' Settings menu. Before installing though, they first need to make sure that they have at least 1.2GB of free space. Users are also strongly advised to back up their data and other important information just in case something goes wrong during or after the update's installation.
Aside from the Xperia Z and Xperia ZR, Sony also unveiled the Android Lollipop update to other devices from the Xperia line. Phone Arena reported that the 5.0.2 version of the update is now available for the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra handsets.
Like the update for the Xperia Z and ZR, the OS upgrade for the mentioned devices is available as an over the air download.
Based on the update's changelog for the Xperia Z1, the lock screen or notification bar will no longer display the "no service" message when the device has coverage. In addition, users can once again use the "close all button" to shut down all running apps at once through the update.
