Apple Inc.'s CEO Tim Cook announced on March 26 that he plans to give away 'his entire fortune,' according to multiple reports. Cook said he will donate his wealth after developing a system for philanthropy, and after he pays for his nephew's college education first.
However, details on how much his 'entire fortune' really is, and where exactly he would donate the money, have not been disclosed.
"You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripple for change," Cook said in an interview with Product Red, a campaign to donate funds to the cause of fighting diseases such as HIV, AIDs, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Nike, American Express, Converse, Starbucks, The Coca-Cola Company, Armani, Gap and Hallmark are a few of the major brands associated with Product Red.
According to The Verge, Apple has donated over $50 million to Stanford's hospital since year 2012. The company also gives Apple employees hundreds of dollars in discounts for its company's products. Business Insider cited eight of the best benefits of working at Apple in their article.
Cook became CEO when Jobs resigned to become Apple's chairman of the board. Jobs was the co-founder of Apple Inc. and Pixar animation studios. Jobs died in 2011. Prior to joining Apple, Cook worked for other major electronics companies such as the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), Intelligent Electronics, and Compaq.
Cook is also on the board of directors at Nike, Inc. and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Nike, Inc. is an American footwear manufacturing company. The NFF is a non-profit organization that works to develop leadership, sportsmanship, and healthy competitive traits in American youths.
