It does not come as a surprise that Jon Snow is dead. Yet, fans are still reeling from the shock. "Game of Thrones' ended with Jon falling to his death on white snow. Director David Nutter confirmed that he is in fact dead. Actor Kit Harington is no longer a part of the series. "Game of Thrones' Season 5 Episode 10 "Mother's Mercy" aired on Sunday, June 14 on HBO.
"I'm dead. I'm not coming back next season. So that's all I can tell you, really," said Harington in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Harington said that he had "an inkling" that his character's death might happen in Season 5. He saw it coming because he read books by George R.R. Martin. Harington was satisfied with the outcome since the storyline was well-crafted and loose threads were tied up prior to his departure from the show. In "Mother's Mercy," Snow is betrayed by the Night's Watch at Castle Black. He is brutally stabbed by Olly, Ser Alliser, and others with knives as they proclaim, "for the Watch!" They marked him as a traitor after he saved the Wildlings.
"He is a consummate professional. It wasn't unlike the Red Wedding where everyone gets attached to people when you work with them for such a long time. You really grow quite fond of each other. You're family," said Nutter. "It was a lot of sadness on set"¦ I took all of the extras aside prior to shooting the sequence and we read the Night's Watch creed together, because I wanted them to feel like they are part of it. Without them being involved, it wouldn't have worked as well. I wanted the scene to happen rather quickly, where it didn't hang at all. That it would happen before you know it."
Harington said that after wrapping up his final scene in the series, all he wanted to do was leave the set. He had tears in his eyes and was "more moved and emotional" than he thought he would be. Harington said that when the show's creators sat him down and told him what would happen, it was the first time anyone ever told him about the future of "GoT.'
