NBA 2K16 Release Date & Gameplay Details: Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, James Harden Featured in New Video Game

James Harden

NBA2K posted on its Twitter account the three different covers featuring the basketball superstars Anthony Davis, Stephen Curry and James Harden for "NBA 2K16."

In addition, publisher 2K Sports also revealed various game play details for the upcoming basketball simulation title.

The involvement of the three NBA stars in the game was first reported earlier this year. This marks the third time that the "NBA 2K" franchise will use three athletes for the game's covers.

This was first done in 2011 with the release of "NBA 2K12" which featured Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Then, on the following year, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose graced the covers of "NBA 2K13."

For this year's title, the series has turned to a new generation of players in the form of New Orleans Pelicans' Davis, Golden State Warrior's Curry and Houston Rockets' Harden.

Aside from having three cover athletes, the upcoming game also features a special participation from award-winning film director Spike Lee. The director's involvement is also connected to the game's tagline, "Be the Story."

Previously, it was revealed that Lee will handle the game's MyCareer mode, a popular feature in the game series which lets gamers take control of the performance of a single character.

For "NBA2K16," Lee served as the primary writer and director for the game mode. But unlike the nature of the MyCareer mode featured in previous titles, this year's game will feature a heavier and more dramatic storyline under the guidance of the acclaimed director.

The mode will also feature a rookie player named Frequency Vibrations, Sporting News reported.

According to Lee, this year's storyline will closely resemble what real-world NBA athletes actually go through outside the court.

"It's about the trials and tribulations of life on a big stage with the money, fame, temptations, family members, the press, fans, all that stuff," Lee told the Associated Press.

"NBA 2K16" is scheduled to come out on Sept. 29 and will be released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows, Android and iOS platforms.
