The Cleveland Cavaliers are the hottest team in the league having won 12 consecutive games, but reports indicated the Cavs are not yet done tweaking their roster.
Cavaliers general manager David Griffin struck big deals last month, but he told Northeast Ohio Media Group that they are still looking to make trades before the deadline on Feb. 19 and will target a point guard, who could play behind All-Star playmaker Kyrie Irving.
While Griffin did not mention names of possible targets, several names are being linked to the Cavaliers, including Jeremy Lin of the Los Angeles Lakers, Norris Cole of the Miami Heat and Mo Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Lin, who was traded to the Lakers from the Houston Rockets in the offseason, is playing in the final year of his contract, and Los Angeles are reportedly eyeing a trade instead of losing the playmaker for nothing via free agency.
The 26-year-old point guard is averaging 10.4 points to go along with 4.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game this season. Lin would be a great backup point guard for playoff teams, but the Lakers are reportedly having a hard time finding the right offer for the former Harvard University standout, Sean Deveney of Sporting News reported.
"While some of that has been the result of a bad fit in LA, it's also been Lin's own struggles with his shooting, particularly from mid-range," Deveney wrote. "He would make a good backup point guard, and the Lakers would move him if they could get an asset in return, but the market for Lin has been weak."
Miami Heat point guard Norris Cole is also getting a lot of interest on the trade front. Reports indicated that the Heat are willing to part ways with Cole before the deadline.
Cole, who is averaging 6.2 points to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game this season, is an intriguing option for the Cavaliers having played alongside LeBron James during the four-time MVP's final three seasons in Miami.
However, Cole, who played for Cleveland State in college, is also on Detroit Pistons' radar after the team lost starting point guard Brandon Jennings for the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
Minnesota Timberwolves veteran Mo Williams is also on trading block, and will be an option for the Cavaliers before the deadline. Williams played two seasons with James in Cleveland before the superstar decided to leave the Cavaliers in favor of the Heat in 2010.
