Bruce Miller, the fullback of the San Francisco 49ers has been arrested in California over suspicion of spousal abuse.
The NFL star was apprehended on Thursday night, at around 11:55 pm in Santa Clara City, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Officers of the Santa Clara police department did not reveal the exact location where the athlete was arrested. The identity of the victim or the person who called the police was also not disclosed.
However, based on scanner recordings obtained and analyzed by The Chronicle, an adult female called the police at around 10:30 in the evening. She said she was behind the Posh Bagel restaurant of Santa Clara's Rivermark Plaza. The woman told the dispatcher that she had just been attacked by her boyfriend.
The 49ers confirmed Miller's arrest and released a statement on Monday, according to NFL.
"The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Bruce Miller," the team's general manager Trent Baalke said in the statement. "We were disappointed to learn of these reports and will do our due diligence in collecting relevant information."
If Miller is found guilty of the battery charges, he could be imprisoned for one year and slammed with a fine of $2,000, Mercury News has learned.
The athlete's arrest marks the 11th time a player from the 49ers has been taken into custody in the past three years. Before Miller, Ray McDonald, the team's defensive lineman during the 2014 season, was arrested twice for suspicion of domestic violence and sexual assault. The arrests occurred in August and December of last year.
Linebacker Aldon Smith was also previously arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and carrying firearms. Due to the convictions, he was suspended for nine games during the last NFL season.
Miller has been the 49ers' fullback since 2011. In March 2014, he extended his time with San Francisco by signing a three-year contract.
