The younger generation in the church has been a focal point for many ministry leaders, as the culture of mainstream media and even what is being taught in schools seem to stand in opposition with the Christian faith. To build confidence and wisdom in the hearts and minds of the younger generation regarding their personal walk with God and knowledge of the Bible, Church Everyday, in partnership with the ministries the Worship Initiative, Stand to Reason, and Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM), is hosting the "Truth Matters" Conference from March 27 to 29.
"We are living in an increasingly post-Christian culture," said Kevin Yi, who pastors the youth at Church Everyday. "Especially in a progressive city like LA, where the culture makers are, this trend has been escalating. From the classroom, to the gym, and even the workplace, there is a growing cynicism and skepticism towards Christian values and beliefs."
Out of a heart in wanting to equip these young people to defend the gospel graciously and confidently, the first Truth Matters Conference took place in March of 2014. Though the first conference was only for the youth in Church Everyday, this year, the organizers invite not only young people in the church, but anyone who is desiring to have a more solid foundation to defend the gospel in their daily lives, and even those who may be skeptical of Christianity but are open to learning.
The conference will be featuring speakers who are well-versed in apologetics and, of note, deeply aware of the Islamic faith and culture, including Nabeel Qureshi, author of "Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus"; Abdu Murray, the president and co-founder of Embrace the Truth, an apologetics-based ministry; and Alycia Wood, who graduated from the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics (OCCA). Shane & Shane, a Christian worship band, will also be attending to lead worship and share insight on worship leading during one of the breakout sessions.
Some of the topics that will be discussed during breakout and plenary sessions include ideas on tactics in conversing about religion, the existence of God, relating with and sharing the gospel to Muslim friends, and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, to name a few.
Ministry leaders will also have an opportunity to receive resources from RZIM and Stand to Reason ministries at a ministry leaders' luncheon on the second day of the conference (Mar. 28) to provide more focused guidance within their own ministry and church settings outside of the conference.
"When Jesus said that we are "the light of the world,' he said that we must let our light "shine before others, so that they may see [our] good works and give glory to [our] Father who is in heaven,'" Yi said.
"The Truth Matters Conference is about holding that light up high with courage and boldness for the glory of God. Will you join us in changing our campuses, workplaces, communities, and city; one conversation at a time, one person at a time, with the one, true, and living gospel of Jesus Christ?"
