The fifth installment to the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genisys, will be hitting the big screen in less than three months, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played the iconic "Terminator" is looking back with great fondness and even sarcastic humor on the four previous films under the franchise.
Schwarenegger appeared in the Good Morning America show and talked about all the Terminator films. When asked which one was his favourite, the actor was hard-pressed for his choice. "I really can't say that," he said.
"I think that the three that I was in, they all three had their own little personalities and interesting storylines," he added.
The only one he was not able to make an appearance on was Terminator: Salvation (2009) which starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. Schwarzenegger had to fulfil his obligations as the governor of California back then and therefore passed up the chance to be in the film, so the crew decided to digitally place his face over the Terminator body to make up for his absence.
He feels grateful for his absence in the film now, because he really did not like the movie. Schwarzenegger can only say now that "thank God" he was not included in the film because he found the installment awful.
However, he has high hopes that Genisys will redeem the franchise. He will be reprising his role as the Terminator again, while Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke will be playing Sarah Connor, Divergent actor Jai Courtney will play her love interest Kyle Reese, and Jason Clarke will portray their son from the future John Connor.
Other stars included in the film are J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Lee Byung-hun, Sandrine Holt, Michael Gladis, Matt Smith, and Aaron V. Williamson as T-800.
Moreover, Schwarzenegger had to be physically fit for his role as the Terminator, and he wanted to be as buff as he was during the first film. "Here the challenge was, how do I have the same frame as I had in the 1984 movie?" he said, adding that he "wasn't that far away from it."
"So, it, I was, let's say at an eight. So, I had to push it up to a ten ... Within two months I got to that size," Schwarzenegger added.
People are curious whether or not Genisys will mark a first in a new trilogy, but the cast confirmed it.
"Yes. Yes, it is," she said.
The movie will hit theatres on July 1, 2015.
